‘Armistice signed at 5 o’clock this morning’

On 11am on the 11th of November 2001 Rachel Fiona Gordon fell down the stairs and broke her arm. Rachel was 1 year old.

Alexander Stevenson, from my mother’s family, died on the Somme battlefield on the 9th December 1916. The very day he died and lay on the battlefield, his wife Isabella delivered his second child. Naturally he was also called Alexander.

This is the short film that I made at Milladd on the 29th April 2016. Sergeant Albert Bayne was killed, aged 21 years, in the battle of Somme. I visited  Milladd, Albert’s home, exactly 100 years to the day of his death:
