Two months ago I received an e-mail from my College that stated that the President “does not wish to be contacted by you any further”. This request was signed “HR Department”.
I have previously explained the background to this which relates to considerations of the potential harms related to antidepressant use.
I am polite when asking questions of anyone and understand that my view may not be shared. However this impersonal, and seemingly defensive response by the College that I have been a member of for more than 20 years, left me saddened. I therefore wrote to the College to seek a better understanding. I received this kind response from the CEO of the College:
Since then I have received several invitations to my NHS e-mail address to attend the AGM of the College and the opportunity to attend the President awarding Medals and honorary Fellowships:
I realise that these invitations are computer generated, however I find myself confused as to whether I am valued or not as a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
[declaration: I have never been interested in seeking awards, medals, or Fellowships.]
