A few days ago I received this e-mail, marked “High importance” from the “HR Department” of the Royal College of Psychiatrists which has left me upset:
This was the e-mail that I sent (in which I had copied in Professor David Baldwin, Chair of the RCPsych Psychopharmacology Committee):
I will of course respect Professor Burn’s request. But let us be kind to one another even if we may have different views.

In my communications with the current President of the College I have shared my views most politely. Views that have asked serious questions of prevailing approaches to mental health.
I have been a paid member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for over 20 years.
I receive weekly invites to become a ‘Fellow’ of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (through NHS e-mail). I have no interest in progressing my career, pay, and reputation by being “awarded” a Fellowship.

Dear Dr. Gordon, I am sorry that you had this experience, it is shameful in my opinion. It appears to be a bullying tactic and I wonder how Professor Wendy Burn or the Royal College of Psychiatrists can justify this ethically or morally.
